Parson Drove - The Village

Parson Drove’s population is a mixture of indigenous people and more recent incomers. Many residents have spent their entire lives in The Drove, and their ancestors before them.

More recently, the population has become much more mixed and several designated Travellers’ sites have added to the rich variety of cultures in the area. Even so, the village as a whole still retains a very strong Fenland character, rooted deep in its fertile soil.

The village supports a flourishing primary school with around 80 pupils. A few years ago, it was on the verge of closure, but it has recovered remarkably and is enjoying much happier times at present. Along with the three public houses, there is also a bowling green, village hall, new sports pavilion and playing field – home to Parson Drove FC. These facilities support many groups and activities, a full list of which is given later.

In addition, there is also a surgery in the village, supporting both the parish and surrounding areas. Part of the school is currently given over to a Day Care Centre, administered by the local Primary Care Trust.

Parson Drove also has its own post office, local store and butcher as well as numerous other businesses based in and around the village.

Many of these places, along with an illustration of the extent of the Parish are shown on the interactive map.
